        Everyone is using smart phones in this current generation. Even now you may use smart phones to read this blog. Human body need some essential functions like brain, heart, kidney etc ... Likewise mobiles too need such sources to function. In this blog we are going to see such an important functioning part of a Mobile phone. 


        It's just a sim card.  Through this blog you will know few unknown details about simcard. Even SIM is an acronym. It's Subscriber Identity Module or Subscriber Identification Module.

"Mobile Phone without sim card is like Human without Brain"


        In 1991 it has been discovered by Giesecke + Devrient (G+D), a German Company.  This company was started by Hermann Giesecke and Alphonse Devrient in 1852. This company is a currency and document printing company. They worked as a specialist in banknote securities and smart card stream in European Telecommunications Standard Institute. 


        In March 27,1991 this G+D company sold their first 300 Simcard to  Radiolinja, a Finnish network operator. Those sim cards had a capacity of storing just 5 messages and 20 contacts.


        In 1996, they introduced mini sim cards which we had used in old nokia mobiles. Those sim cards existed from late 90s to end of that decade. Then the concept of micro and nano simcard had introduced. 

        Even for a Sim  manufacturing, there are number of companies around the world. The toppest One among those was GEMALTO, a dutch company.

        Zhuhai, a Chinese company is the biggest sim supplier for our Country. This company supply their sim cards and smart cards to the top most network operators such as Reliance, TATA, Airtel, Vodafone and State Bank of India.

        Every simcard has a gold chip in it. It was generally made by silicon and it is coated with gold. The chip is protected by plastic shell around it.


        Currently we are using 4G sims, Previously we have used 2G,3G sims, but many of us don't know what G represents. It's the Generation of wireless Technology.


        There are some differences in network technologies (1G,2G,3G,4G). Speed is the major difference between them. 1G supports Telephonic Service as possible. 2G supports voice call, text and data, but data speed will be upto 250kbps only. 3G supports the same as 2G but the data speeds up to 3mbps. 4G supports data speed upto 100mbps. 

        We may came across LTE and VoLTE options in our mobile phones but few may not aware of it. Let's see the expansion for both. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and VoLTE stands for Voice over Long Term Evolution. Both are 4G technology. VOLTE is the advanced version of LTE.


LTE supports either voice call or data at a time. It may support but with the poor quality. 


   But VoLTE supports both voice call and data at the same time with high quality.
